Description: Mekelle University is a higher education and training public institution located in Mekelle, Tigray, Ethiopia. It is one of the largest public universities in Ethiopia. It has seven colleges, eight institutes, and more than 90 undergraduate and 70 postgraduate programs. The student intake capacity of Mekelle University has reached 31,000 or 10% of Mekelle's population.
Mekelle University aims to foster Ethiopia’s development though a focus on problem solving research, community services and training of skilled young men and women. The training focuses on a balanced practical and theory sessions with students in all colleges and institutes passing through a mandatory practicum and practical attachment to enable them acquire real life work experience they can not acquire in classrooms. Its result-oriented and community-focused approach has enabled Mekelle University to have one of the best research outputs and university rankings among, even the oldest Universities in Ethiopia.
While the main target area of Mekelle University is Ethiopia, it has developed productive research and development partnerships all over the world, with currently having 115 working agreements with partners in 52 countries in all continents.
